Ubaldo Bierrara, the bartender of the Salty Rose, attempts to kick Scram and Zola out, but is distracted by the screams coming from the center of town. Zola and Scram hustle outside and face two more Grimlock, saving two guards but ending up in rough shape themselves. They watch as the rest of the Grimlock flee down an alleyway, led by a cloaked figure holding a mysterious chest.

Zola and Scram speak with the lord of the town, a miserable man named Cravern Eaglebottom, who is eternally guarded by his faithful goliath henchman, Munu Brighthorn, Cravern commands them to track down the hooded figure and find his stolen treasure.

In need of some healing, the two head to the local temple of Chauntea, a grain goddess, and receive some healing from kind priest, Father Bartulli, and his acolyte Prya Altrui, a shy teen cleric from Paddlewick.

Prya, persuaded by a smitten Zola, agrees to help on their mission while Father Bartulli stays behind to help the wounded.
